چکیده

Abstract Wild boar (Sus scrofa) is one of the most damaging invasive species in world and can have a profound impact on distribution native species. Nevertheless, there still are limitations species’ current fine-scale spatial information, which needed to develop effective management measures. Here, we used Species Distribution Models (SDMs) niche overlap analysis estimate potential conflict areas between wild southern pudu (Pudu puda), bioindicator forest conservation status within Nahuel Huapi National Park (NHNP), Argentina. The two environmental overlaps by 40%, results wide geographical distributions. model predicted that occupies 22% national park up 67% with distribution, turn 20% park. Based our models, classified 12% as extreme priority areas, because both present. High where boars invade but will not populations, represent 10% Medium do threaten low no presence either species, 8% 68%, respectively. this study show how SDMs developed at local scales support monitoring help guide allocation efforts resources for actions focused protected areas.

Rapid spread of invasive genes into a threatened native species.

When introduced or cultivated plants or animals hybridize with their native relatives, the spread of invasive genes into native populations might have biological, aesthetic, and legal implications. Models suggest that the rate of displacement of native by invasive alleles can be rapid and inevitable if they are favored by natural selection. We document the spread of a few introduced genes 90 km...

Wild Ungulate Surveys in Grassland Habitats:

Surveying grassland ungulates presents unique problems to the researcher. Appropriate statistical methods exist, but applying them in the field invariably requires ingenuity and compromise. I describe line-transect surveys I conducted of 3 plateau grassland species in Qinghai province, focusing on underlying statistical assumptions and specific measures I took to deal with each. I also suggest ...

Leptospirosis in Urban Wild Boars, Berlin, Germany

We found antibodies to leptospires in 25 (18%) of 141 wild boars from Berlin (95% confidence interval 12-25). Seropositivity was associated with chronic interstitial nephritis (odds ratio 10.5; p=0.01), and leptospires were detected in kidney tissues. Wild boars represent a potential source for human leptospirosis in urban environments.

Areas of Increasing Agricultural Abandonment Overlap the Distribution of Previously Common, Currently Threatened Plant Species

Human-driven land-use changes increasingly threaten biodiversity. In agricultural ecosystems, abandonment of former farmlands constitutes a major land-use shift. We examined the relationships between areas in which agriculture has been abandoned and the distribution records of threatened plant species across Japan. We selected 23 plant species that are currently identified as threatened but wer...

Leptospiral antibodies in wild boars (Sus scrofa) bred in Brazil

In the recent years, the wild boar (Sus scrofa) trade has increased in Brazil. The present study aimed to detect Leptospira spp. infection in 308 blood samples from wild boars bred in São Paulo state, Brazil. The microscopic agglutination test (MAT) was performed using 29 serovars. Sixty three (63; 20.45%) animals tested positive against the serovars Hardjo (29/63; 46.0%), Copenhageni (11/63; 1...
